Narrative

For the 2011-2012 academic year at East Carolina University (hereafter, ECU or the institution), the percentage of course hours in each major at the baccalaureate level taught by faculty members with a terminal or terminal equivalent degree is between 30% and 100%. For the previous academic year (2010 – 2011), the percentage of course hours in each academic major taught by faculty members with a terminal or terminal equivalent degree is also above twenty-five percent.

Using the Comprehensive Standard 3.5.4 Terminal Degrees of Faculty template provided by SACS-COC, the 2010-2011 Faculty with a Terminal or Equivalent Degree and 2011-2012 Faculty with a Terminal or Equivalent Degree tables are organized by academic year and identify the total number of course credit hours in the major or concentration that are taught by someone with a terminal degree in the discipline or the equivalent of a terminal degree in the discipline.  These tables are generated by ECU’s Operational Data Store (ODS), using the academic course offerings for the spring and fall terms, the faculty credentialing database and degree audit software for determination of courses that are included in the calculation of major credit hours, as defined within the undergraduate catalog.  The tables include the location/modality of the delivery (face-to-face or online) of the course work.
