To ensure that students are aware of the possibility that proctoring fees may be charged, East Carolina University (hereafter, ECU or the institution) utilizes the following message,At this time the university does not impose any additional charges specifically related to verification of student identity. Students enrolled in distance education classes in which proctored exams are required may incur charges levied by the proctoring site they choose. Fees for these services are listed on the UNC Online Academic Services website which schedules proctored examinations.”  This notification can be found in the publicly available Undergraduate Catalog:  Distance Education, the Graduate Catalog:  Distance Education, the university cashier website, and the Distance Education Options website. In addition, the Tuition and Fee Brochure (Spring 2012) includes the following statement:  There may be additional fees associated with Distance Education courses for verification of student identity for proctored examinations.”  Finally, at the time of registration, a notification “pop up” box also appears that informs the student that additional charges may be required.

Through these written notifications and procedures, ECU notifies students at the time of registration of any projected additional student charges associated with verification of student identity.
